Steve Wyse Sleeps By Deer
Steve Wyse Sleeps By Deer draws his inspiration from his Leni-Lenape (Delaware) Grandmother from seven generations ago. He feels like she is with him always - guiding, teaching, and encouraging him to do the very best that he can. Steve is constantly reminded of the seventh generation prophecy which says that after seven generations of living close to the Europeans, and forgetting about the old ways, and destroying the earth, we will slowly begin to come back to the ways of our ancestors. In spirit, his Delaware Grandmother urges him to do what he can to help heal the Earth. To take care of, and to respect the Tall Standing Ones, the Ones that Crawl, the Ones that Swim, and the Winged Ones. Most importantly, she teaches him that the flute is an instrument of love that is to be used for the good of all the people. She also teaches him that the flute can be a powerful tool for healing.
Steve Wyse’s latest CD is titled “Sound Healing”. Sound Healing uses the Native Flute, animal medicine, and chants to provide healing energy to each of the seven major energy centers of the body - or chakra’s. He made a flute specially tuned to resonate with each of these energy centers. He calls upon assistance from animal spirits, and then he created an 8 minute recording on each energy center .
Sound Healing is the latest of three CD’s that Steve has available. It is his second flute CD. His first flute recording was released in 2003 and is titled “Listen…..The Tree Speaks”. Steve has been singing and performing music since he was 6 years old when his Grandmother put him on stage at a Grange meeting where he sang Tennessee Ernest Ford’s Sixteen Tons. When he was 31, he began playing guitar, singing, and traveling in a country band. In 2000, he bought a flute at a Pow Wow and immediately started playing. Soon after that, he started studying flute making from a nationally acclaimed flute maker by the name of Dan Haviland. Since then, he has been creating music for personal healing. His CD’s can be purchased on CD Baby and Amazon.com.
Steve Wyse Sleeps By Deer lives in Lansing Michigan. He has two beautiful, adult daughters, and a very supportive domestic partner by the name of Sarah Rathburne. Sarah sang the female vocal parts on the Sound Healing album. Steve is a self-taught musician. Besides the flute, he plays the guitar, harmonica, and a little piano. He has worked raising money for charity groups such as Kaleidoscope - a cancer survivor support group. He has a deep respect for the Earth, and tries to walk on her as softly as possible. For all that he has, and all that he will receive, Steve says: Mitakuya Oyasin.
